Jake’s Sword
Recreate Jake’s sword with this simple craft idea!
It may not be made of wood from the Forever Tree, but it is sure to spark hours of magical play for your kids!
- A large piece of cardboard
- Brown marker
- Box cutter or craft knife
- Self-healing mat (or more cardboard)
- Glue
-
Draw a sword shape about 20 inches long and 1 1/4 inches wide at the bottom.
-
Cut out that shape, flip it over and trace the shape on your cardboard. Cut out the second sword shape and glue the two pieces together.
-
Next, cut a piece of cardboard 2 inches by 4 inches and cut an 1 1/4 inch wide slit in the centre. Slide that piece onto the end of the sword, stopping when you reach about 5 inches up from the bottom.
-
Create the loop. Cut another piece of cardboard 2 inches wide and 10 inches long. Make slits 1 1/4 inches long placed 1/2” from each short side. Gently bend the cardboard to create a curve. Also cut two small round circles about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
-
Put it all together. Slide one slit of your curved piece up to meet the piece that is already in place. Slip the other end on, sliding it just an inch or so up from the bottom. Glue the circles to either side of the bottom of the sword.
-
Lastly, use your marker to create wood grain lines all over the sword.
